Ghana international, Asamoah Gyan, has picked one out of the twenty four teams in the ongoing 33rd African Cup of Nations. He chose the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The top Ghanian player has considered the Super Eagles of Nigeria as the favorite to win the AFCON being played in Cameroon. He actually gave his reason for choosing Nigerian squad.

Gyan, who could have made history in the 2010 FIFA world cup in South Africa, rated Nigeria based on the performance of the Super Eagles in the crucial game against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Nigeria defeated the North African pharaohs of Egypt in the Group D match. Kelechi Iheanacho’s lone goal enabled the Super Eagles to crush the Egyptians.

Gyan said that the players showed character. He said that the players were not cautious at all as they dominated the match throughout. He said it was an impression match.

The popular footballer argued, “But when you look at Nigeria, they showed character of a potential champion considering the way they dominated Egypt all through the 90 minutes.”

He stated further that the Super Eagles deserved to have more than one goal, but they were unlucky.

Gyan knew that Nigeria faced some challenges during the buildup for the competition. He said, “This was a team that had its pre-tournament challenge as they were unable to have some of their best forwards for the tournament.”

“And playing a strong team like Egypt in the opening match was an acid test and they excelled”.

Lastly, Asamoah Gyan concluded that other teams in the competition were yet to impose themselves as Nigerian Super Eagles did on Egypt. He ended, “one only hoped they maintained same tempo as the tournament progresses.”
