The Osun State governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola has come out to inform the people and residents of the state that he would like to lead them once again for four years.
The governor told the people of the state at a time that the All Progressives Congress is rupturing in the state. There are some challenges ahead of the state governor, and they ara capable of stopping him from further leading the state.
There are cracks in the Osun State APC. And that should constitute a major challenge to the reelection of Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola. Even if he has a majority of the party leaders by his side, the cracks are wide enough to cause a setback.
Mr. Oyetola’s victory could not be attributed to his pedigree in 2018. Even though virtually all the forces in the All Progressives Congress were behind him at that time, he still found it very difficult to beat Ademola Adeleke.
Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, Lasun Yussuf, Najeem Salam were all solidly behind him at that time to ensure that he beat Ademola Adeleke, Iyiola Omisore and Moshood Adeoti. And so it came to pass.
But since that time, the forces that queued behind him had split into two unequal sides. And each side want to dominate the APC in the southwest state. As a matter of fact, Oyetola’s side seems to be stronger.
The Osun Progresives being led by the interior minister, Rauf doesn’t see any reason why Oyetola should be returned to the Bola Ige House, Abere. TOP and its principal, Aregbesola believed Oyetola betrayed the interests of the APC.
If Aregbesola’s faction fails to stop Oyetola from picking up the ticket of the party, the faction will most likely withdraw its support from the state governor during the gubernatorial election.
The state governor might have performed satisfactorily well in his governance. He might have pleased the residents of the state. But winning election (in Nigeria) is far beyond good governance. An example is Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.
