The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has tasted from the high-handedness and disregard for constituted authority in the country. It must still be a shock that his order could be flouted with reckless abandon.
The issue at the Phase 2 Magodo Area of Lagos has taken another dimension. Residents of the area are protesting against the planned demolition of their houses and properties. They acquired them through the Lagos State Government.
Whereas the verdict of the Supreme Court allows the family Adeyigba to take over possession of the land and the properties thereon. And the tussle between the family and residents of Magodo has involved police.
The residents called on Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to save them from the impending loss while the police are following the instructions of the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation.
The state governor ordered the police officers under the leadership of a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). The CSP led his men to the area and Sanwo-Olu wanted them to disengage from the siege laid on the estate.
The police boss didn’t even consider Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as he would rather listen to instructions from the police headquarters. It was indeed a slap on the governor’s face as he couldn’t defend the helpless people of Magodo Area.
The Nigeria Police often treat the civilians with little or no regard. The issue of Endsars which rocked Lagos State should be remembered.
