Embattled Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara has finally bowed to pressure and announced his readiness to do everything to abide by the verdict of the Supreme Court and to do everything for peace to reign in the oil rich state.
The apex court ruled that the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the House of Assembly didn’t defect to the APC and that the Nyesom Wike’s loyalist remains the speaker of the assembly. The judgment has emboldened the faction as they shut the door against Fubara yesterday.
At the inauguration of Okrika Grammar School on Thursday, the governor said that he is ready to embrace peace.
“It is important at this stage that we all embrace peace. The Supreme Court has given its judgment, and we have no option but to abide by it,” the governor said.
He added, “We have started the process, and we are appealing to other parties to consider the interest of Rivers State. The only thing we owe this state is peace and development
“Despite the challenges confronting our administration, which we didn’t bring upon ourselves, we remain committed to improving education in Rivers State.”
His oral commitment comes as the Federal Capital Territory minister Nyesom Wike argued that the assembly can impeach the governor and nothing would happen.
