Emir Sanusi Wants to Pull Tinubu Down Like Jonathan

0

The emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has not learned his lesson. He has always courted controversies and one of them pulled him down in 2020 only for him to rise again albeit in a controversial way. He was dethroned by the former governor of Kano State Umar Ganduje because he was critical of the same system that produced him.

When former president Goodluck Jonathan was in power, he allowed every Dick, Tom and Harry criticise him, he didn’t crack down on dissents. Little wonder he failed to win the second term. Mr. Lamido Sanusi wrote a damning report that some money was missing. He personally leaked the report and failed to carry Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the ex minister of finance, along.

Sanusi said that some billions of dollars were missing from the crude oil account. Jonathan did suspend him, but the damage was already done. Comments and reports made by the former Central Bank of Nigeria governor Sanusi contributed to the woeful performance of Jonathan in the 2015 general elections.

Apparently, Mr. Sanusi is determined to do the same thing to Tinubu. The emir of Kano said that he would not answer if the president asked for his comments or views or ideas about the economy and state of things in Nigeria.

Embattled Sanusi said, “I’m not going to help! Let them come and explain to Nigerians why the policies that are being pursued are being pursued. Meanwhile, I am watching a movie with popcorn in my house.”

It is not clear if Tinubu had asked Sanusi to offer his expertise. The president has his economy team and the members are offering their ideas so as to solve the problems. It’s immature for the emir to publicly say he wouldn’t help the administration.

Suffice to say, Sanusi and embittered Nasir El-Rufai belong to the same caucus. Sanusi might be an instrument with which to pull the administration down in the eyes of the public. That may be the game plan. Then, must the emir be a tool all the time to destroy a government? Where was Sanusi when former president Muhammadu Buhari almost wrecked the country?

Sanusi agreed that the president could not be blamed for the economic woes. He knows that a lot of damage has been done. He said, “But I will say one thing, what we are going through today is at least in part and necessary consequence of decades of irresponsible economic management.”

Why would he preempt Tinubu’s appeal to him to assist the country? It is apparent he wants some attention, hence, he said he wouldn’t help. He should have waited patiently for the president to call for help first and foremost.
