Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has denied a report (not in Online Parrot News) that he is opposing the release of incarcerated leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu from the prison.
Kanu was arrested in 2021 after his extradition from Kenya. The administration of Muhammadu Buhari refused to allow him pass through the normal trial while also denying him bail. Kanu had jumped the earlier bail given to him.
Mr. Soludo had been seriously accused of working against the freedom of Kanu. He was said to be doing all he could to let Kanu remain behind the bars. He has however denied the report through his information commissioner, Dr. Law Mefor.
The governor said that political opponents are behind the spread of the rumour. Soludo highlights what he has done to assist the IPOB leader. He explained that he paid a visit to Kanu at the facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) and offered to take Kanu on administrative bail.
“Contrary to false claims, Soludo has been actively working towards Kanu’s release, as he hopes it will foster peace and stability in the South-East. His actions and public statements underscore his commitment to this cause,” Mefor said.
He continued, “Soludo visited Kanu at the DSS facility, offered to take him on administrative bail, and assured his availability whenever required. This demonstrates the governor’s willingness to facilitate Kanu’s release and resolve the issues surrounding his detention.
“Soludo’s stance on Kanu’s release has been consistent. His efforts are aimed at fostering unity and development in the South-East while addressing the legitimate concerns surrounding security,” Mefor concluded.
