The Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) chairman Zacch Adedeji has made it clear that he would not contest for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress in 2027. And by extension, he wouldn’t compete to take over from the incumbent Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde.
Rumours have it that Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, the minister of power would contest for the third time in a row.
Mr. Adedeji, a very close ally of President Bola Tinubu was at Iwo Are, Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State for the New Year Service when he made the statement to distance himself from the gubernatorial election.
The Youth Coalition for Good Governance of the Peoples Democratic Party had accused the FIRS boss of being distracted by the aspiration to govern the state.
He said: “I want to respond to a lot of requests. I, Zacch Adedeji, will not contest for the governorship election in 2027.
“I know a lot of people will not be happy about this but everybody that knows the responsibility and grace that Almighty has given to us… I was commissioner of finance 14 years ago and by that time, with the grace of God, we’d done all God wanted us to do in the state.
“He has given us that platform so the only thing I need from you is the prayer that in what I’m doing now, that the Lord gives me strength. So, I would not want to be distracted.”
