The Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has paid a visit to a lawyer and human rights activist Dele Farotimi at his home in Lagos. Dele Farotimi was remanded after his arrest by the police. He was accused of libeling a top legal icon Aare Afe Babalola with his book.
In early December, police picked up the lawyer from his Lagos residence. He said that the Nigerian judiciary system is corrupt and that top lawyers including Babalola used to bribe the judges.
Obi is a close ally of both Babalola and Farotimi and they played a crucial role in his bid for the presidency in 2023.
Obi said, “Since his return from the correctional centre in Ekiti, I have not had the opportunity to meet with him. I was pleased to find him in good spirits and deeply encouraged by his unwavering dedication to the struggle for a better Nigeria,” Obi wrote.
“Dele Farotimi exemplifies courage in the face of adversity, consistently taking bold stands for good governance in our nation.
“I wish him a fruitful and productive year as we continue to work together toward the development of our country,” Obi added.
