Eats Humble Pie
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has eaten humble pie and technically withdrawn the threat he issued to President Bola Tinubu over the rather controversial tax reform.
The governor argued that the tax reform of President Tinubu would cripple the northern region and the governors from the region would not be able to pay salaries and construct roads. He made the statement when some Christian leaders paid him a visit at the government house in Bauchi.
He said that the president was calling for anarchy with the reform and that the northern region would show him the true colour of the region.
He said, “If you ignore the cries of the people, you are inviting anarchy. These reforms are not helping northern Nigeria. How do you expect us to pay salaries and build roads when you are taking away our revenue sources? This is unacceptable.”
The presidency replied him through Sunday Dare, one of the image makers of the president. He was asked to withdraw his threat and engage in constructive dialogue with the federal government.
On Tuesday, Bala Mohammed, who leads the PDP’s governors forum talked through his special adviser on media and publicity Muktar Gidado. He said that he was just honestly advising the president to reconsider the unfavourable policies.
“It is mischievous to take Governor Bala Mohammed’s honest advice about the dangers of implementing unfavorable policies as a threat to the Presidency,” the statement read.
“The Governor deeply respects the institution of the Presidency and would never engage in threats or hostility.
“Governor Bala Mohammed remains committed to collaborating with the Presidency to address national challenges and ensure Nigeria’s overall growth and development.”
