Chelsea under German coach, Thomas Tuchel, is passing through some difficulties right now. The team, which initially seemed as a potential contender for the Premier League title, is crashing slowly under the top manager.
Mr. Tuchel led the London club to win its second UEFA Champions League some months ago. The club was in celebratory mood till the beginning of the current English Premier League. And things began to crash.
Since October, Chelsea has not been able to win any home match in the English Premier League. As a contender for the title, this particular stat is worrisome and it shows a team that is diminishing in strength.
Since the classic encounter against Manchester United, Chelsea has been struggling to catch up with the runaway Manchester City at the peak of the table. Manchester United, despite its poor performance, was able to make a point against the blues.
The 2021 UEFA Champions League winners had not been consistent in the games. A draw in the last UEFA Champions League group stage means Chelsea came behind Juventus on the log.
Apart from that, Chelsea has dropped some points against a number of team in recent times. The blues played a goalless draw against Wolvesmapton in the English Premier League. Likewise, Danny Welbeck’s late equalizer denied Chelsea the maximum three points against Brighton.
Thomas Tuchel doesn’t seem to understand the tactics of his top signing, Romelu Lukaku. Of course, the Belgian striker isn’t a green horn in the EPL. He had played for top teams including Everton, Manchester United and Chelsea itself.
But the former top Italian Serie A goal scorer has been grumbling against the coach. Lukaku made some comments about his role and place in the club. The comment has irked the coach.
Chelsea spent a fortune to bring the hefty Belgian striker from Inter Milan this season. And he isn’t happy in the team. Chelsea doesn’t have a more reliable striker. At the same time, the team can’t expect defenders and midfielders to provide goals.
And despite winning the coveted UEFA Champions League, Chelsea is still at loss.
