Damagum Causes PDP’s Failure in Ondo, Party to Lose Osun, Ekiti
The acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Umar Damagum has been accused of causing the failure of the party in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Ondo State. The political party has been performing woefully in elections.
The All Progressives Congress and its governorship candidate Lucky Aiyedatiwa were able to beat the PDP and Agboola Ajayi with a margin of 248,000 votes in an election that could be regarded as a walkover for the ruling party.
On Monday, an ex spokesperson for the PDP Kola Ologbondiyan accused the acting chairman of hobnobbing with the president, Bola Tinubu, who was elected on the APC. He said Damagum couldn’t provide any explanation to his rapport with the president.
“It is reprehensible that the Acting National Chairman is supervising the dishevelling of the party,” he stated.
There have been several issues on the leadership of the party with a faction loyal to Atiku Abubakar asking Damagum to leave while the other side loyal to Nyesom Wike backs him.
“Ambassador Damagun has the least of interest in working for the success of the party in any election,” he added.
“How can the head of the leading opposition party be accused of nicodemusly meeting with the President of the ruling government, and he would have no response to provide?”
The former spokesperson said that the party may still lose Ekiti and Osun in 2026.
