Allow Amotekun to Carry Weapons – Afenifere Asks President Tinubu
A sociocultural organisation, Afenifere has asked President Bola Tinubu to allow the operatives of Western Security Network, commonly known as Amotekun to Carry arms and ammunition as other security agencies are doing.
The governors in the southwest geopolitical zone decided to establish Amotekun when former president Muhammadu Buhari was losing his grip on security of the country. They established the outfit with no plan to use arms. But Online Parrot News had reported cases where the personnel of the security outfit used “light” weapons.
Afenifere hld a meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital and released a communique after the meeting. It asked Amotekun be licenced to carry lethal weapons and called for a synergy between the local outfit and other security agencies.
Apart from that, Afenifere also asked that there should be installation of command and control posts of Amotekun across all the local government areas in the southwest zone.
