The Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered his men in the police force to provide security and protection to the Nigerians who are coming out to protest against what they term bad governance in the country.

Nigerians say they will occupy the streets across the 36 states to protest against bad governance. They complain of hunger and severe hardship and argue that they can’t withstand hunger anymore.

As the plan for the protest were ongoing, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun Olu-Onagoruwa wrote a letter to the police boss requesting security for the people coming out to protest.

The police boss has replied the legal luminary saying, “I am to inform you that the Inspector General of Police has directed the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (Operations and Intelligence), the Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) in charge of Zonal Police Headquarters, and the Commissioners of Police (CPs) in charge of State Commands across the country to attend to your request.

“I am also to inform you that the Inspector General of Police wishes to have a meeting with you at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, 30 July 2024, to deliberate further on your request,” the letter read.
