House of Reps Slashes Salaries to Feed Hungry Nigerians
The lower chamber of the National Assembly, the House of Representatives has taken a patriotic and proactive step to curb hunger and hardship, which majority of the Nigerian citizens face.
Millions of the citizens are groaning in pains as they struggle to make the ends meet. As a matter of fact, all short-term efforts of the administration of President Bola Tinubu have proved abortive as the issues worsen across the West African country.
On Thursday, the federal lawmakers decided to part with 50% of their monthly salaries to fight hunger. They are ready to part with their entitlement so as to serve the interest of the masses, who elected them into the house.
At the plenary on Thursday, the deputy speaker, Benjamin Kalu moved a motion to cut the basic salary of the lawmakers so as to cater for the urgent needs of the people of the country.
“This government is doing its best but one year is not enough to address the challenges of this country. I want to plead with our colleagues to sacrifice 50 per cent for a period of six months,” the lawmaker was quoted.
