August Protest: Organisers Increase Demands to 15

The planned nationwide protest against bad governance will take place in August and its organisers have released the demands from the federal government.

Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential aspirant and publisher of Sahara Reporters, has said that the demands would now be 15 from earlier 14 released for the federal government.

The Day of Rage, as it’s called by the leaders of the protest, is now demanding that Nigerians in the diaspora be allowed to vote in he general elections.

Currently, the electoral act which the Independent National Electoral Commission, works on doesn’t allow voting by proxy or from abroad. All eligible Nigerians can cast their votes in the country. But the protest planners now want Nigerians abroad to take part in the exercise.

Sowore has called for scrapping of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and replacing it with another constitution. He has also called for abolishing the Senate and only the House of Representatives should be in operations as obtainable in some countries.

The protesters are demanding an unconditional release of incarcerated leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
