Pro-Wike Lawmakers Order Fubara to Present 2024 Budget
The twenty seven members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have ordered the governor, Simi Fubara to immediately re-present the 2024 budget to the assembly. The lawmakers are loyal to Nyesom Wike, who has an axe to grind with the governor.
A Court of Appeal has ruled that the lawmakers were unduly removed from the assembly following their defection to the All Progressives Congress. A Rivers State High Court has invalidated their defection to the opposition party.
The Pro-Wike faction led by Martin Amaewhule and Fubara’s faction’s Victor Oko-Jumbo, on Monday, convened separate sessions.
In its own plenary, the Amaewhule-led faction, issued a 7-day ultimatum to the governor to resubmit the 2024 budget to the house.
