Release Kanu to Get Igbo People’s Votes, Fayose Advises Tinubu

A former Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has admonished President Bola Tinubu on what to do about the incarcerated leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

There have been calls for release of Kanu, who is facing trial for his secessionist moves to create a Biafra state. Several Nigerians including the Labour Party presidential candidate in the last general elections Peter Obi have called for his unconditional release.

But Fayose believes that the president can benefit from letting Kanu off the hook. He explained that the All Progressives Congress will get more votes in the next general elections in 2027.

According to him: “Releasing Nnamdi Kanu will reduce crime in the South-East by 50%. And APC will get more votes in 2027.”

Fayose cited former President Goodluck Jonathan as a case study. The ex leader of the country gave a contract to Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo so as to to have peace in the Niger Delta region. The former governor therefore said that Tinubu should use the same pattern.

“If President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan can give a contract to Tompolo to have peace in the Niger Delta, why can’t we do the same in the South-East?”

“If we are spending so much money on security in the Southeast, the money will be reduced by 50% releasing Kanu,” Fayose advised.

He added that, “If I were president Tinubu, after the election, when I noticed that the Southeast people didn’t vote for me, I would have released Kanu to counter them; releasing Kanu can make some of them say, ‘oh this man has a good intention’”.
