Banditry in North to Continue for 10 Years More – Sultan of Sokoto

Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar has claimed that the banditry and kidnapping ravaging the northern region of the country would continue for another decade.

Most of the northwestern states are grappling with high level of insecurity including banditry and kidnapping. Less than twenty-four hours ago, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto was killed by bandits while travelling from Sokoto to Kaduna.

Several villages have been deserted a kidnappers take people for ransoms and even levy taxes on the villagers and stop recalcitrant ones from getting to their farmlands.

Sa’ad Abubakar, who is also the President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) attended the North-West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina State on Monday. It’s there he made the statement:

“What we must do is to challenge these bandits because we all know the consequences of banditry and insurgency on our lives. But it will take decades to get out of it if all we get out of it. We all know the consequences and the problems,” he said.
