Abia Soldiers: Nigerian Army Records Victory Over IPOB
On Thursday 30 May, 2024, some armed men of the Indigenous People of Biafra launched an attack on the troops of 144 battalion at a checkpoint close to Aba in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
It’s one of those IPOB attacks which often leave security personnel dead and weapons carted away by the members of the proscribed group. They killed five personnel of the army that day.
The president, Bola Tinubu as well as the Defence Headquarters frowned at the attack and called for arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act. The army said it had carried out due intelligence and conducted a raid operation to “neutralize” six members of the secessionist group.
The army said that the operations were aimed at apprehending the perpetrators and recover the weapons from IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). So, there was a sucessful clearance/raid operations to the IPOB/ESN Camp in Igboro Forest in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State yesterday.
In the operation, the army said its troops met IEDs leading to a soldier being injured. Apart from bringing down six of the members, several others sustained varying degrees of injuries, according to the statement released by the military.
Weapons including three locally fabricated Rocket Propelled Grenade launchers, two locally fabricated Artillery gun with tripod and its bombs were recovered.
Other items recovered include dane guns, Biafra flags as well as Toyota Tundra and Hilux vehicles that were burnt insitu. Also all of their camps with different inscriptions were destroyed.
