Atiku Suggests Solution To Kanu’s & Biafra Issue
A former vice president Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has proffered a solution to the political issue in the southeastern geopolitical zone. His comment came on the heel of the killing of five personnel of the Nigerian Army on 30 May.
The defence headquarters accused the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) of masterminding the killing of the soldiers at a junction close to popular Aba in Abia State.
The secessionist groups are yet to deny their involvement in the attack and the army has vowed to retaliate the killing.
But the former vice president believes that the main solution to the issue is a political resolution. Atiku said that a political resolution and negotiation with the incarcerated leader of the groups, Nnamdi Kanu would bring a permanent solution.
“Without prejudice to the ongoing legal processes, I think the time has come to explore a political resolution to the Nnamdi Kanu and other associated issues.
“I believe that this will defuse the compressor cooker situation in the region. It will be a win-win for all parties,” he said.
Nnamdi Kanu is still proving his innocence and he has accused the Nigerian judicial system of being prejudice and bias.
On Thursday the secessionists asked residents of southeastern region to stay at home in honour of the fallen heroes of the civil war (1967 – 1970). The military personnel were deployed to maintain law and order in the area and the groups launched the attack.
