The Old National Anthem Is My Priority – Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the criticism against his decision to reintroduce the anthem saying that it’s his priority.
Millions of Nigerians have condemned the decision to reintroduce the national anthem. They argued that the current leadership of the country was not sensitive to their plights orchestrated by several bad policies.
They said that the president should have placed importance on their wellbeing rather than working tirelessly on reintroducing the national anthem.
Tinubu, who took over from Buhari last year, was discussing with the Arewa Consultative Forum, a northern group, when he disclosed that the old anthem, “Nigeria we hail thee”, is his top priority.
“Let me allude to something that happened yesterday. The change of national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’,”
“Some people say, okay… say what? Is that your priority? It’s my priority. I agree with the National Assembly. If they make law, I’ve got to obey that law, or we disagree openly and close the chapter.”
A video which has once again gone viral shows Tinubu, at that time a presidential aspirant, saying that he would change the anthem if he had his way.
