The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ordered Israel to immediately halt its attacks on Rafah, the last refugee city for Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The judges at the top court of the United Nations called on Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to stop its offensive and withdraw from the enclave.
It’s not yet clear if the Israeli forces would obey the court.
South Africa had approached the international court accusing Israel of committing genocide and saying that there is an immense risk to the Palestinian people.
Nawaf Salam, who heads the ICJ and reads the verdict said that Israel must “immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part,” Salam said, and called the humanitarian situation in Rafah “disastrous”.

Thousands of people, mostly civilians have lost their lives while there is also a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza. The war has spilt into some other Middle East countries.
