Tinubu Excludes State Varsities Students from Loans

The administration of President Bola Tinubu has excluded students attending universities and polytechnics owned by state government from the students’ loan portal.

Tinubu has come up with a plan as more universities are hiking fees even though the country is facing serious inflation. The plan is to give loans to students, who are going to pay later after their graduation.

However, rather than making the programme open to all students across all institutions, the government has excluded all other students outside federal universities and polytechnics.

Managing Director of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr Akintunde Sawyerr gave some disclosure on Monday that 1.2million students would benefit from the scheme.

He added that payment of the soft loan would start two years after the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), a mandatory one-year programme for graduates.

He said, “We encourage all students in federal institutions to take advantage of this opportunity to secure the required financial assistance for their education. Applicants must submit their applications as early as possible to ensure timely processing,” he said.
