The people of Gbongan community have been protesting the incessant cases of accidents on the popular and very busy Gbongan-Osogbo Road. The youths have come out en masse to show their grievances w³ith the way Government handles the matter.

On 24 December, which was the Xmas Eve, two persons were knocked down and killed instantly in a very fatal accident on the dual lane road. Likewise, an infant was reportedly killed the following day on the same road.

The Gbongan Youth Emancipation Group being led by Yinka Oyeniyi has made several appeals to the state government through the commissioner for works. Promises were made, but no actions were taken to nip the issue in the bud.

The youth staged an intial protest immediately after the Xmas Eve accident. The road was blocked at the Alape Junction, which is the busiest part of the road. They have now given an ultimatum to the state government to act.

The Gbongan Youth Emancipation Group, in a statement released, said that the road will be fully blocked on 31 December. And all travellers plying the road would be stranded. The president, Oyeniyi said there wouldn’t be going back in the plan unless the necessary measures are put in place.

According to him, there is a need to erect bumps at key locations on the road. He said this would reduce the speed on the newly constructed road. He warned that the youths would be mobilised and residents of Gbongan would troop out to block the road unfailingly unless the Osun State Government acts promptly.
