EFCC & Yahaya Bello’s Hide-and-seek Takes New Dimension
The hide-and-seek between a former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a new dimension.
The commission has not been able to arrest the former governor even though the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered withdrawal of policemen attached to the former governor.
On Friday, a court of appeal sitting in Abuja ordered a stay of execution of Yahaya Bello’s contempt case he brought against the chairman of the EFCC. He dragged the commission’s boss to the court for contempt of the court.
The court was presided over by Hon Justice Joseph O.K. Oyewole JCA and assisted by Hon Justice P. C. Obiora JCA and Hon Justice Okon Abang JCA.
The court listened to the counsels to the anti-corruption agency including Chief J. S. Okutepa (SAN) leading Eko Ejembi Eko (SAN), Abdulkareem Musa Esq and David Ojogbane Akogu Esq.
EFCC was close to arresting Bello when its operatives besieged the Abuja home of the ex Kogi Governor. He was able to escape with the help of the incumbent governor, Usman Ododo.
