Crisis Brews Again in Rivers Politics

It’s not yet over with the political crisis rocking the oil rich state. The bitter enmity between Mr. Simi Fubara, the governor and his predecessor and benefactor Nyesom Wike doesn’t appear to be near an end.

President Bola Tinubu intervened in the matter and helped to settle the crisis. However, few months after the intervention of the president, the acrimony raises its head.

Few days ago, the governor decided to reshuffle his cabinet. He deployed the attorney general and commissioner of justice Professor Zacchaues Adangor and the finance minister Isaac Kamalu. Both commissioners are two of the several loyalists of Nyesom Wike in the cabinet.

Mr. Simi Fubara transferred the former commissioner of finance to the ministry of of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment. The Commissioner was in charge of finance when Wike was the state governor.

Kamalu submitted the resignation letter to the secretary to the state government (SSG) and faulted Fubara’s claim that the monthly revenue of the state has increased.

The letter reads, “In the course of official engagements I have reiterated the need for this peace and the fact we all are willing and determined to work for this.

“It is very difficult to deliver good governance where there is acrimony and discord. It is not the point of service that is important, but the climate.

“Our present circumstance makes service delivery extremely challenging. I still hold the belief that it is never too late for peace.

“In view of the above, I find it difficult to accept the redeployment. I do not accept it. I reject it and convey to you my immediate resignation as Commissioner and Member of the Rivers State Executive Council with effect from the date of this letter.

“While praying that the Good Lord grants us peace, I thank you for the opportunity and assure you the assurances of my esteemed regards.”

Professor Zacchaues Adangor has also resigned. Neither Wike nor Fubara has reacted to the issue. Online Parrot News reported that the FCT minister isn’t pleased with how things are playing out in Rivers state.

He feels he’s losing out even though he sponsored Mr. Simi Fubara from the primary to the main elections.
