Oloyede’s JAMB Arrests Father Impersonating for Son

The registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed arrest of a father and son in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Admissions seekers are mandated to sit the UTME which JAMB conducts. And the father reportedly appeared at the Computer Based Test (CBT) centre to do the exam for his son.

The board registrar didn’t reveal the identity of the culprits. He said that there is no benefit in examination malpractices adding, “For those who engage in cheating, they should know that it does not pay.”

Professor Ishiaq Oloyede described one of the biggest problems the board faces across the country. He said that candidates are engaging in impersonation using the National Identification Number (NIN).

NIN is compulsory for all applicants and they generate profile codes through the NIN. However, the JAMB boss said that the objective “has defeated the purpose of identity verification”.

He added, “We (JAMB ) have a case of a father impersonating his son, taking an examination for the son. Are you not destroying your son’s future?

“Two of them are now in custody. I can’t understand what the father will now tell his son when they are both locked up in the same cell. This did not happen in Kaduna, but I don’t want to disclose the state.”

The examination body had also sanctioned one of its officials in Lagos for directing a female candidate to remove her hijab during its 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
