Tinubu’s Government To Increase Hardship With Electricity Tarrif

With very poor power supply coupled with regular power grid collapse, the administration of President Bola Tinubu is set to increase the electricity tarrif and hence make life more unbearable for the people of the country.

Nigerians have been complaining of the hardship orchestrated by the sudden removal of fuel subsidy. Inflation has reached the ceiling and there is no assurance yet that things would be better eventually.

Electricity tarrif stands at N66 per kilowatt, but the government wants to increase it to as high as N225 which is almost 400% increment.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has advised the president and his government to summon courage to remove subsidy on electricity just as he did to petroleum.

The Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Musliu Oseni made the announcement on Wednesday while briefing journalists in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“We currently have 800 feeders that are categorised as Band A, but it will now be reduced to under 500. This means that 17 per cent now qualify as Band A feeders. These feeders only service 15 per cent of total electricity customers connected to the feeders.

“The commission has issued an order which is titled April supplementary order and the commission allows a 235 kilowatt per hour,” he said.
