The second coming of Sunday Igboho & Fulani Herdsmen Attacks
Sunday Igboho was highly popular towards the end of the administration of Muhammadu Buhari. He said he was fighting for the interest and safety of his people who dominate the southwest geopolitical zone of the country. He held arms and ammunition and led his boys for some operations.
But his activities caught the attention of the then Government when he started calling for establishment of the Yoruba nation. It’s was this particular plan that irked Buhari’s government, which asked the Department of State Service to descend heavily on him.
The secret police carried out a midnight attack in which Sunday Igboho narrowly escaped being killed. Some of his “boys” lost their lives in the operation and Igboho himself eventually spent a long time in a Beninionise prison.
However, he retained his freedom from the prison and went to spend some time in Germany only for him to return to the country to the same struggle that drew the anger of the government.
He has maintained his stance that the Fulani herdsmen are not allowed in the forest of Yoruba. He accused the marauders of using their cattle to damage crops, and that the herdsmen commit other atrocities including killing and raping the people.
The Miyetti Allah, an association that champions the interest of the herdsmen, has raised alarm over the Yoruba self-styled activist. The association has called for his immediate arrest on the ground that he’s a threat to the Fulani.
Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) said that Sunday (Adeyemo) Igboho threatened the herdsmen in a video. Therefore, it wants President Bola Tinubu to order arrest of the Yoruba man.
While talking to his supporters, Sunday Igboho said, “This is our domain. We should save ourselves from Fulani. We should put security in all Yoruba land. We did not need to wait for anybody including the government. If we really mean business, we should not wait for the government or else Fulani will carry all our lands. We should be united. Which farms do we have again in Yoruba land? Can we go to farm now?”
MACBAN national president, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, the Miyetti Allah called Igboho’s statement treasonable.
The herdsmen head said, We call on the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu (GCFR) and relevant security agencies to arrest and prosecute Sunday Igboho for making this unlawful statement that amounts to treason because he is asking for the actualisation of Oduduwa nation.
“His statements are unlawful. If Nnamdi Kanu will be held behind bars for a similar offence, we see no reason why Sunday Igboho will be allowed to go scot-free without being arrested and prosecuted.”
The activist has got the attention of the security agencies. The defence headquarters had openly warned him against carrying out any operations without its knowledge.
Meanwhile, the Yoruba people are still facing attacks of the herdsmen who constantly and annoyingly lead their flocks to the farmlands awaiting harvest for grazing.
