Insecurity in Ekiti: Police Arrest Fulani Men Without Cattle

The Nigerian Police Force has arrested five Fulani men suspected to be behind the killing of some traditional rulers in Ekiti State and abduction of some other school children.

Ekiti State, along with other southwest states, was thrown into confusion when the armed Fulani men ambushed the kings and killed them. A report says that the Yoruba traditional rulers resisted kidnapping and the men gunned them down.

Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola lost their lives while Alara of Ara–Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba escape by a whisker.

The Ekiti State Police Command has released a statement on the development. The statement highlighted the efforts to arrest the suspects and curtail insecurity in the southwest (Yoruba) state.

Police said, In a bid to flush out criminal elements especially kidnappers out of the State, a combined team of the police, NSCDC, Amotekun, O.P.C and local hunters today being embarked on a bush combing operation through Oke-Osun, Ikere/Igbo-Okah to the thick forest around Iju/Ikere boundary.”

The suspects are Usman Jelili, Mohammed Bande, Abubakar Aliu, Isah Abdulahi and Suleiman Abdulahi by the police.

“During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be herdsmen but it was later discovered that none of them has cattle and no cattle was found with them in the forest where they were arrested.”
