New Kogi Governor Ododo Toeing Fubara’s Path
Usman Ahmed Ododo, the new Kogi State governor may be a replica of Simi Fubara, Rivers State governor. Ododo took over yesterday, but the first set of steps he has taken indicates that he will be another Fubara.
The Rivers State governor has been caged by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. He can hardly make some decisions on his own without approval of the former governor, who is currently the minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike has made Fubara his puppet and he controls the affairs of the state. The members of the executive give their loyalty to the ex governor instead of their current boss, Fubara.
Yahaya Bello anointed Ododo and he ensured the APC candidate for the Kogi governorship election win the poll with a wide margin with the aid of rigging and malpractice. The Independent National Electoral Commission confirmed some irregularities in the election.
The new Kogi State deputy governor was seen prostrating for the outgoing governor during the swearing-in ceremony yesterday. Nigerians have reacted to the scene and condemned the duo.
But that’s just a trivial matter. Ododo immediately appointed Ali Bello as the Chief of Staff to the governor. Ali is a nephew of Yahaya Bello. There is no reason to dispute the fact that Yahaya imposed his nephew Ali on Ododo.
The implication is that Yahaya has already got a spy, and informant who will be working for him in the new administration. Simi Fubara of Rivers State couldn’t make decisions on his own too.
Some commissioners of Yahaya Bello have also been retained. The ex Kogi State governor has succeeded in re-establishing himself in the Lord Lugard’s house, Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
Yahaya Bello will be the defacto leader even though the people of Kogi have elected a new governor.
