Ibadan Explosion: What Makinde Has Not Said

The explosion that rocked the Oyo State capital on Tuesday is still a misery. The death toll is increasing as rescue and health workers continue to search the rubbles looking for survivors and victims trapped in the collapsed buildings.

Ibadan used to be one of the calmest and safest cities in the country. But the Tuesday explosion disrupted its peace and has made the people to wonder if they are actually safe in the city. The state governor, Seyi Makinde has not told the Oyo State, Ibadan and Nigerian people what they want to hear.

Who actually stockpiled the dynamites that exploded in Bodija Area of the city? The government has said that it’s not a gas or pipeline explosion. It said that the illegal miners were responsible for the incident, which has claimed at least five lives, injured up to 100 and destroyed several houses.

Rumours that are making the rounds have compounded the issue and this has made it necessary for the Oyo State Government under Seyi Makinde to tell the people of the state and country what actually happened.

Seyi Makinde needs to unravel the misery if he’s yet to. Occurrences like that are not ones to be covered up. The security of the people of the capital city is at stake. That’s why it’s very important for the state governor to do more and tell the people what really happened.

Some claimed that it’s the handiwork of terrorists. One can never write off the possibility of a terrorist attack after all Ibadan is the largest city in the country.

It’s now 48 hours after the incident. Mr. Seyi Makinde should have got the preliminary report about the explosion. He should then clear the air by telling the people what really happened.
