How Tinubu’s administration excludes millions of Nigerians from 50% discount on transportation

When the news broke out that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has slashed the cost of transportation by 50% for Nigerians, there was uproar from all quarters of the country. Reactions started coming in and enthusiasts of the All Progressives Congress and surely of the president started commending the administration.

However, a critical look at the plan, which kicked off today, shows that only a negligible percentage of the people of the country will benefit from the “subsidy on transportation”.

As a matter of fact, much attention is paid on a particular part of the country, cutting off the larger part of Nigeria. That would be the first such would happen in the country at the federal level. But it’s really little.

The plan seems to target residents of Lagos. People travelled from Lagos to Kano, Abuja, Zaria, Kaduna, Jos, Enugu, Onitsha, Owerri, Aba, Abakaliki, Uyo, Port Harcourt will enjoy the programme. Lagos is only the takeoff point in the whole of southwest geopolitical zone.

People living in Ibadan (largest city in Nigeria), Osogbo, Akure, Abeokuta, Ado, all in the southwest geopolitical zone have been excluded, unfortunately. Aren’t they Nigerians as well?

Apart from southwest, only Abuja is the takeoff point in the whole of north central zone. Understandably, Abuja is the Federal Capital Territory, but it doesn’t have a higher status than Lafia, Minna, Makurdi, Lokoja, all of which didn’t appear on the list circulating on the internet.

There is no takeoff joint in the whole northwest geopolitical zone, the larger region in the country. How can one explain that? What about northeast and south-south region?

Millions of Nigerians have been excluded just like the other palliative programmes the Tinubu’s administration has had.

In fact, the whole of the plan amounts to much Ado about nothing. To make the development more amusing, only five transportation companies are enlisted. They include GIG ( God is Good), Chisco Transport, Young Shall Grow, God Bless Ezenwata, Area Motor. It doesn’t appear like one northern transportation company is included.

Whereas the programme is flaunted as to benefit five millions Nigerians. It’s a mere political propaganda.
