Is Akeredolu aware of anything anymore?
Current events on the corridor of power in Ondo State show that the governor, Rotimi Akeredolu doesn’t know what is happening. The governor, who is still recuperating in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, is totally out of the scenes.
When he arrived from Germany in September, some events took place. The Ondo State House of Assembly attempted to sack the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The assembly didn’t do anything while Akeredolu was away for months.
But upon his arrival back in the country, the assembly started the movement. One would have expected Akeredolu to resume office immediately and clear the table once and for all. However, he remains in Ibadan. What that means is that he himself didn’t know about any plan to remove his deputy.
The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Umar Ganduje reacted by intervening. He met some stakeholders in the state with a view of settling the rancour. However, there is no report that he had a talk with the governor himself. That also means Akeredolu isn’t aware of anything.
Ganduje’s efforts didn’t yield positive results. The matter was about to reach the head when President Bola Tinubu summoned the lawmakers, deputy governor, APC leaders and some family members of the governor. He told them to maintain the status quo.
If it were not a serious issue for Akeredolu, he would of course address the media after the intervention of the president, his ally. His side was silent. He didn’t talk or react to the issue.
Ondo State commissioner of energy and mineral resources, Razak Obe, has written a letter to the deputy governor. He disclosed to the deputy that the signature of the ailing Ondo State governor has been forged. There have been arguments over this particular development.
Akeredolu has kept quiet. He has neither denied nor confirmed that his signature has been forged. This shows that he doesn’t know what’s happening at all.
