Ohanaeze Ndigbo Reacts to Kaduna Bombing of Civilians

The Igbo sociocultural organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reacted to the saddening in incident that happened in Tudun Biri community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday.

Nigerian Army admitted that it mistakenly struck and dropped bombs on civilians while chasing terrorists in the area. The death toll has passed 100 and it’s expected to rise as more injured people die.

The organisation expressed its displeasure in a statement released on Thursday and signed by National Publicity Secretary, Dr Alex Ogbonnia. The group expressed its deep sorrow over the incident.

The statement said, “The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, expressed deep sorrow over the avoidable catastrophe.

“The Igbo Leader urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to conduct a thorough investigation on the bomb mishap and those found to be negligent should face the full weight of the Law.

“The Igbo Leader is optimistic that the outcome of the investigation will help the Nigerian Army to attain a more prudent, skillful, professional military-civilian engagements in their operations.

“Iwuanyanwu calls for adequate compensation to the families who lost their loved ones in the incident as well as appropriate treatment to the victims of the airstrike who are in the hospitals.

“On behalf of the National Executive Committee of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and indeed the entire Igbo, we sympathize with the affected families, the government and the good people of Kaduna State for this very unfortunate tragedy.”
