How Obasanjo is inciting youths against Tinubu

Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo didn’t give his support, which is actually inconsequential, to the then All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Tinubu. Both Obasanjo and Tinubu hail from Yoruba-dominated southwest geopolitical zone.

Despite the fact that Tinubu gives maximum respect and regards to Obasanjo, the latter still refused to back the candidacy of the ex Lagos State governor. Yet Tinubu was still able to win the presidential election.

Rather than providing support to the winner of the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo has taken up the role of critic. He has publicly and without remorse criticised the same system, method that produced him in 1999 and 2003. He said that democracy is not the best for the country, and Africa as a whole.

One way or the other, the former president is calling for insurrection or military rule. He himself led re country as a military head of state from 1976 to 1979. He handed over to the first executive president, the Late Shehu Shagari. The same Obasanjo who now considers democracy as a bad system used it in 1979.

While Obasanjo is entitled to his opinion, it’s now surprising how he’s asking the Nigerian youths to fight the current leadership of the country. He said that the youths ought not to be comfortable with the situation of the country.

Millions of Nigerians are unemployed; they struggle to survive and cater for their needs amidst poor economy coupled with soaring inflation. But the issue has been like that even when Olusegun Obasanjo was in power from 1999 to 2007.

Obasan asked the youths to “make those who need to be made uncomfortable, uncomfortable.”

He added, “Knowledge is very important, accurate knowledge. You also need the fear of God and proximity to God. When you are a leader and you do not fear God, then you are a dangerous leader.

“Wherever you may choose, leadership is very important and the principles are basically the same. A good leader must have certain characteristics, knowledge is good, but not enough. How diligent are you? What is your level of integrity? What are the values that you cherish?”

The former Nigerian leader didn’t explain how the youths could make the leaders, notably Tinubu feel uncomfortable. But there’s no other way you can mount pressure on them without protesting. Elections are over, there won’t be another until 2027.

It can be concluded that the former president is inciting youths against Tinubu. For him to denounce the same democratic process from which he benefited, Obasanjo wants an insurrection.
