Was Nigeria truly in coma when Tinubu took over power?

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has claimed that President Bola Tinubu took over power when the government was comatose. Abiodun is a member of the All Progressives Congress just as the president. Nigerians would recollect how the then APC candidate Tinubu embarrassed the governor in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In an interview with the Channels Television, the governor said, “Tinubu inherited an administration that was almost comatose. I believe this government is very bold and taking the bull by the horns”.

Whereas the ex president Muhammadu Buhari said that he left Nigeria better than he met it and said that the people would thank him later. Bola Tinubu himself has said that he would continue from where Buhari stopped.

The incumbent president has taken some “wise decisions” which have plunged the millions of Nigerians into deeper abject poverty. More millions are now living from hand to mouth.

Yet Dapo Abiodun has called on Nigerians to back the incumbent president, Bola Tinubu. He wouldn’t be the first to say how the situation was when the ex Lagos State Governor took over power on 29 May, 2023.

Tinubu himself said that he inherited both liabilities and assets and that he was not elected to complain. His speech that time could be interpreted as to mean he met a very direct situation. Wale Edun, the finance minister said that they met a dead economy. That same view was shared by Charles Soludo, Anambra State governor, who was part of the economy team of Buhari.

Rather than easing the pains of the people, Bola Tinubu has made them worsened with the decisions and policies he has introduced including the unpopular removal of subsidy.

If Bola Tinubu met a government moving to coma, surely the president is now leading it to the grave as the ex Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido said. The ex governor argued that the former president Buhari killed Nigerians while Tinubu is leading them to the graves, according to the Daily Trust.

The ex Lagos State governor himself has not condemned how Buhari handled the economy and security of the country. If he met a more serious condition, wouldn’t he have talked? Or it’s Tinubu himself who has led the government to coma?
