Kogi: First-class monarch gets query for failing to win area for APC

A first-class monarch in Kogi Local Government Area has received a query over the poor performance of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 Kogi gubernatorial election in his area.

Alhaji Abdulrazak Gambo Isa Koto, the traditional ruler of Ohimege Igu Kotonkarfe in the local government area, was queried by the commissioner of local government and chieftaincy affairs. The query which was signed by the commissioner was dated 22 November, 2023 and the monarch has just 48 hours to respond.

Even though the traditional ruler doesn’t have power over security agencies let alone the wider security of the area, he was alleged to have caused the death of “an innocent young lady in addition to several others who were wounded”.

The Kogi governorship election was marred by irregularities including violence, rigging and pre-recorded results sheets.

The commissioner alleged that the actions of the monarch (which were not stated), contravened his expected roles. The commissioner said that the king was not moved when “his action threatened the coveted peace and security of the state”.

All Progressives Congress and its candidate Usman Ahmed Ododo lost the local government area. And this development really annoyed the incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello, who anointed Ododo as his successor.

Mr. Salami Momodu Deedat indicated in the letter that the monarch may be required to provide oral explanation once the government decides to set up a panel to investigate him.
