Why is PDP so unlucky at the court?

The poser is for the political party, PDP, the ruling All Progressives Congress and the judiciary to answer. It all looks like the opposition party is being targeted in the court as it loses at all levels from the tribunal to the apex court in the land.

There are several instances to point at. The first one is the presidential election matter. Former vice president Atiku Abubakar struggled so hard to “retrieve” his stolen mandate from the incumbent President Bola Tinubu.

He fought so hard to the extent that he dragged an American university into the matter so as to find an incriminating evidence to nail Tinubu. He failed. And since that day the Supreme Court lay the matter to rest, it has been from one loss to another for the PDP.

In Zamfara State, both the election petition tribunal and the Court of Appeal said that there should be a rerun in three local government areas of the state. The two courts of competent jurisdiction said that the election that brought in Dauda Lawal to power was inconclusive.

The PDP hopes to win at the apex court so as to maintain its presence in the only state of the 7-state northwest geopolitical zone.

The party heave a sigh of relief when the Nassarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sacked Abdullahi Sule. The PDP had expected to claim the north central state, which used to be one of the strongholds of the party. David Ombugadu was declared winner by the lower court.

Both the APC and the governor, Sule, approached the Appeal Court. They disagreed with the decision of the tribunal, as expected though. They coasted home victory at the higher court, which set aside the verdict of the tribunal.

The PDP and its candidate David Ombugadu would now look up to the Supreme Court. But most of the time, if not always, the apex court tilts towards the Court of Appeal and affirm its decision. That means, without prejudice, the PDP would still lose at the court.

It’s not a good mood in Plateau State PDP. Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has been officially sacked by the Court of Appeal. He has a chance to pursue the matter in the Supreme Court though he has just little chance.

In the same Plateau State, the PDP has lost a senatorial seat to the All Progressives Congress. Minister of Labour and Productivity Simon Lalong has returned to the Senate. He picked up the ministerial appointment after his shocking defeat in the general elections.

Surprisingly, the court sacked the winner and returned him elected depleting the Peoples Democratic Party in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

The political party lacks coordination at the national and all other levels. Its performance in the general and off-season elections indicates lack of good leadership. Hence, it couldn’t muster the necessary courage to take on the All Progressives Congress despite the glaring bad governance.

All Progressives Congress seems to find its way at the judiciary. The Northern Elders Forum has told the arm of the government to let conscience determines what it does. It raises concern about how the courts upturn the wills and decisions of the people, the electorate.

Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo has raised an alarm as well. The former president argued that the courts shouldn’t be allowed to decide for the people. The NEF and the ex president must have considered how the court makes the PDP so unlucky.
