The self activist, Mr. Sunday Igboho is one of the agitators for secession in the country. And he has celebrated his own Xmas in a special way. The top voice of Yoruba leader remains in custody in Benin Republic since his arrest.
Mr. Sunday Adeyemo escaped from the country after his home in Ibadan was attacked by the Department of State Service. Officers of the DSS besieged the home in the capital of Oyo State; and at least one person was killed while several were arrested. The activist’s main ordeal is that he called for Oduduwa Republic, which the federal government frowns at.
On 19 July, 2021 Mr. Sunday Igboho was arrested by the security personnel in Benin Republic. More than 150 days after, there is no assurance that he would be released from custody in the West African country, which shares borders with Nigeria. Igboho was a free man last Xmas, he is being held in custody right now.
It was initially believed that Sunday Igboho would be released or extradited to Nigeria on time. As days go by, it becomes clearer that his ordeals would be protracted.
While other Nigerians are celebrating the birth of Jesus, Mr. Sunday Igboho is behind the bars in a foreign land. There might be efforts to get him released, but they are not enough. Even the Yoruba people he was fighting for seem to have abandoned him.
