Appeal Court Sacks Zamfara Governor Lawal, Asks INEC to Conduct Rerun
Court of Appeal has sacked the Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and declared the election that brought him in as inconclusive.
The court has also ordered a rerun in three local government areas of the state. The Court of Appeal, which sat in Abuja, the capital territory asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a rerun in the affected local government areas.
Mr. Dauda Lawal represented the Peoples Democratic Party in the governorship election held on 11 March, 2023. He competed against Mr. Bello Matawalle, who is now the minister of state for defence.
The affected local government areas are Maradun, Birnin Magaji and Bukuyun. Lawal has rights to appeal the decision of the court at the Supreme Court.
