Wike: I am not fighting Rivers Governor Simi Fubara because of money

Immediate past Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said that he’s not fighting or having a rift with his successor Simi Fubara because of money. The two men are currently at loggerheads.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has started moves to impeach the governor, Fubara. He was shot by the Nigerian police with teargas and water canons on Monday while he was heading to the assembly complex to stop the impeachment process.

Wike, who is the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has explained that he doesn’t have issues with his cousin Fubara because of money. He said that as a minister, he had enough and that he left power not quite long.

President Bola Tinubu has intervened in the matter with a view of nipping the impending political crisis in Rivers State in the bud. A court has also restrained the Rivers State House of Assembly from impeaching the governor.

Online Parrot News has reported the crisis engulfing Rivers State as Nyesom Wike, who controls larger percentage of the members of the house, intend to wield more power over his self-imposed governor.

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have made moves to pacify the ex governor and stop the crisis from exploding. Wike told the governors who came to meet him in Abuja that money is not involved in the matter.

He said, “Yes, we have talked about the crisis in the state but let me tell anybody who cares: nobody can intimidate me, nobody. It doesn’t matter whether you go and bring thugs on the road, it doesn’t matter whether you are Ijaw, if I want to do something, I will do it. Impeachment is not a military coup; impeachment is provided under the Constitution.

“I’m not interested in all the rumours – money this, that is rubbish. Absolutely rubbish. I just left office how many months ago. I’m an FCT minister. Which money?

Mr. Wike hinted on the genesis of the crisis, “But nobody can take away our political structure, no one. For me, you cannot work and people begin to bring enemies, those who fought you when you are struggling for the person to be in office; nobody does that. Even if you go and say I gave a limit. I want 25 per cent. Such a ridiculous…

“I am not a political ingrate, I am not — but don’t touch the political structure of Rivers State. I will not shut my eyes. Forget about the Obidients and the Atikus who have lost and felt that I did not support them. Those who I revoked their C of Os here, oh Wike did this, Wike did that. All those things, I’m not perturbed. The President is our father; he has spoken, we will see where it takes us.”
