NLC President Ajaero Suffers Brutalization as Imo Workers Fight Governor Uzodinma
The Nigeria Labour Congress president Joe Ajaero is reportedly currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, the headquarters of Imo State as it workers in the state press home their demands.
Online Parrot News had earlier reported that Mr. Joe Ajaero was arrested and taken to an unknown location. The NLC and its sister union Trade Union Congress immediately released a statement jointly calling for his immediate unconventional release.
When Mr. Ajaero was finally let off the hook, he has been brutalized as his eyes were swollen and there were some bruises on him.
Imo State workers are protesting against the state governor Hope Uzodinma for owing them 40-month salary. And there’s an allegation that he ordered the arrest and victimization of the union leader.
The NLC Head of Information and Publicity, Comrade Benson Upah, said that the arrest amounted to an “attempted murder”.
The spokesperson said that the NLC reached out to Ajaero “around 15:30 hours at the Police Hospital in Owerri from where he was taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri where he is receiving medical attention”.
He further said, “Ajaero, who said little stated that immediately after his arrest, he was beaten up and blindfolded and taken to an unknown destination where more brutalisation took place, sometimes with bottles.
“His phones, money and other personal effects were taken off him and have not been returned to him.”
