What Gumi Fails to Understand as He Accuses Christians of Destroying Muslims and Nigeria

The controversial, but cerebral, Islamic scholar Sheik Ahmad Gumi might have failed to realize some things as he claimed that Christians are responsible for destruction of Muslims and the country.

He said that it’s wrong to let christians spearhead the security architecture of the country because the people of that faith often target and destroy Muslims. He actually provided some instances.

Sheik Ahmad Gumi accused Christians of killing top northern leaders including Sardauna Ahmadu Bello, Murtala Muhammed, and for attempting to kill Ibrahim Babangida. The scholar is known for defending the interests of Muslims, whom he leads. But his current outburst is unnecessary and capable of setting the country on fire.

On several occasions, the scholar was captured in camera conversing with armed bandits, who terrorise the northern axis of the country. The bandits kidnap for ransoms, and often kill their victims who fail to comply.

Sheik Gumi has also called for amnesty for the bandits without providing any basis for that. But the scholar ought to have known succinctly that those who arm themselves and terrorise the northern people are not Christians. They are Muslims and they kill, maim, rape their fellow Muslims.

The Islamic scholar has never taken his time to condemn the activities of the kidnappers. He would rather give untenable reasons for their activities. Hence, he supports Muslims, who make life unbearable for other Muslims.

While ex President Muhammadu Buhari was in power, most of the service chiefs were Muslims. Christians kept quiet throughout the period and gave their support so as to have improved security in the country.

Yet the security of the nation worsened. Farmer-herder crisis reached a head, the insurgency in northeast grew sporadically, the agitation for self-rule in southeast and southwest almost tore the country. Sheik Ahmad Gumi was not uncomfortable that time. It seems he detests peaceful coexistence in the country.
