How Tinubu gives priority to Christians in his Government
There was an uproar from across the country when the then All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Bola Tinubu picked a Muslim as his running mate for the election. Critics started calling him all sorts of names and accusing him of having an Islamic agenda.
But it seems the president is more interested in Christians. Apart from the fact that his wife Remi Tinubu is a Christian, Bola Tinubu has appointed Christian faithful into key positions. In fact, Christians holds the economy and security of the country at this moment.
The new governor of the apex bank, Yemi Cardoso is a Christian. And the ministry of finance is under Chief Wale Edun, who is also a devout Christian from the southern region. The Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), the Tax Reform Committee, the Nigerian Postal Services are Christians.
The list doesn’t stop at that, the southwest region has 10 ministers in Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. 7 of the politicians/technocrats are identified with Christianity.
The security apparatus of the country is right now in the hands of Christians or Nigerians who identify themselves with Christianity. The Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa is a Christian from northern state of Kaduna. The Chief of Naval Staff and the Inspector General of Police are Christians.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) hass raised its worry or concern about the moves of the president when it comes to giving out appointments. The leader of the group, Prof. Ishiaq Akintola said that it’s worrisome that the president has snubbed Muslims who gave him the bulk votes.
Of course, the argument is not about the merit or qualifications of the people that the president is appointing. The nucleus of the issue is that the president tilts towards Christians more than towards those who identify themselves as Muslims.
