Palestinian Hamas still holding 126 Israeli as hostages, 286 soldiers confirmed dead

The Israeli military has confirmed that 126 citizens are being held captives by the Palestinian Hamas as at Sunday, 15 October.

The Israeli authority lowered the figure from 150 following the inspection and identification of more bodies from the wrecks in southern Israel. The bodies have been deposited in the morgues for later burial.

The Palestinian Hamas launched a massive and rather surprising attack on Israel eight days ago while the Jews were marking a festival and its holiday. It would be one of the deadliest attacks the islamists would launch on Israel.

Apart from the number of captives that the armed men took to Gaza, hundreds of other Israeli citizens lost their lives while the militants were on a rampage having broken down the border that separated Gaza and southern Israel.

At least 1,300 Israeli have died from the attacks and thousands of rockets that the Palestinian Hamas launched into Israel. The Lebanese Hezbollah has also joined the war by attacking Israel from the north through the occupied West Bank.

Meanwhile, Military spokesman Richard Hecht has revealed that 286 officers and soldiers of the Israeli Defence Force have died. The Hamas successfully overran a military base of Israel, took some soldiers away and killed several more.
