Why tribunal sacks Kano governor Yusuf
The Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal has delivered its judgement over the governorship election in Kano State. The court has sacked Abba Yusuf and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the poll.
The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately withdraw the certificate of return from Yusuf and issue a fresh one to the APC candidate.
The candidate of the APC, Yusuf Gawuna, approached the court after the electoral commission had declared the NNPP’s candidate as the winner of the election.
The court agreed that a total of 165,663 votes were illegally added to the tally of the NNPP. The court therefore cost removed the thousands of votes from the party and its candidate.
