When will Obasanjo stop hating & disrespecting Yoruba?

The ex president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has shown his disposition to the Yoruba race. It has even made several top kinsmen to wonder if he is truly a Yoruba by race. There is no doubt that he has his origin in the ethnic group: the tribal marks on his face, his language and his claim that he’s hails from Ogun State.

Rather than protecting the interest of the Yoruba people, the ex president humiliates, embrasses, and regularly works against the group.

The former leader of the country yesterday talked rudely to the traditional rulers at an event in Oyo State. He disrespectfully talked to the monarchs an ordered them to be on their feet openly. There have reactions to the incident.

Olusegun Obasanjo also worked tirelessly against the incumbent president Bola Tinubu. While it’s good to be detribalized, there is nothing bad in working for someone from your race as well. In fact, Olusegun Obasanjo knew that Peter Obi of the Labour Party didn’t have what it takes to win the presidential election. Yet Obasanjo still blessed him.

Even when it’s clear that Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, Olusegun Obasanjo still talked down on the electoral commission. He discredited the exercise and covertly called for anarchy.

The steps of the ex president have always been detrimental to the race. While he was in power (1999 to 2007), there couldn’t be specific infrastructural projects or legacies he has in the southwest region.

He has more allies among the Igbo people and politicians, who are not ready to take bullets for him whenever crisis ensues. What could be his reason? The Yoruba people didn’t vote for him in 1999.

Olusegun Obasanjo competed with Olu Falae of the Alliance for Democracy. The southwest people had a chance to choose from two of their sons. It’s not likely for them to divide. They preferred Falae, who later lost the election. But since that time, the ex president has been an enemy of the race.

As an elderly man, and one of the very few elder statesmen of the country, Obasanjo ought to have moved from the hate. It could make him more bitter and cast doubt on the authenticity of his race. How many more years has he to spend? He should have stopped the hate and show some respect to the southwest people and their institutions.
