A political crisis is brewing in Ondo State. Its governor Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu has returned home from Germany, where he went for medical attention. The governor was there for more than 90 days.
Before he left the state for the European country, h officially handed over to his deputy Lucky Aiyedatiwa via a letter he wrote to the Ondo State House of Assembly.
While the ailing Ondo State governor was away, his deputy began some moves that unruffled the feathers of politics in the state. His moves indicated his intent to take over from the governor. He wanted to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress in the next gubernatorial election.
Few days after his return, the governor hd ordered disbanding of the media crew to the deputy governor. This was contained in a statement released on Tuesday.
Part of the statement reads, “All media aides appointed by the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Aketi, SAN, CON, and seconded to the office of the deputy Governor, have been relieved of their appointments with immediate effect.”
The development didn’t stop at that, the statement also ordered the ministry of Information and Orientation “to provide adequate coverage for the activities of the deputy’s governor office henceforth.”
The deputy governor himself had dismissed the insinuations that he was disloyal to his principal. Before the governor returned, the deputy made attempts to woo top party leaders with a view of getting the support of the party.
The last Ondo deputy governor of the state was impeached and political issues almost engulfed the state towards the tail of the first term of the governor.
The Ondo deputy governor through his personal media aide reacted to the purported disloyalty. He said, “We need to remind the public that this is a continuation of the blackmail started by these same characters some months ago, with false stories planted in some media outlets against the deputy governor.”
