APC loses another seat at the Senate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost a seat in the House of Senate and the Labour Party also reduces in number at the House of Representatives.

A former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has been declared as the winner of the Benue North East senatorial district election. The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress Emmanuel Udende.

But the ex governor, Suswam was not satisfied with the results as released by the electoral commission. Hence, he went to the tribunal to retrieve his stolen mandate. The tribunal said that the INEC unlawfully added 51,895 votes for Udende and also gave 21,229 votes to Suswam.

The tribunal deducted the padded scores from the results and Mr. Gabriel Suswam emerged with 90,590 votes to beat the sacked senator, Udende, who now polled 82,699 votes.

The immediate past governor of the state Samuel Ortom has rejoiced over the development. He reacted through his media aide, Bemgba Iortyom.

Ortom said, “The party rejoices over the victory won particularly as it re-establishes its dominance in the upper chamber membership composition of the National Assembly in the state with two Senators out of three.

The ex governor added, “This victory of Senator Suswam serves to heighten the hopes that PDP will likewise reclaim the governorship of the state at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal through the judgement being awaited.”

Mr. Samuel Ortom himself failed to win the senatorial seat of his district in the last election as the All Progressives Congress stole the day in the general and gubernatorial elections.
